Elections
SG Elections
Student Government (SG) representatives are chosen through a democratic election process each spring (with a special First-year Election in the fall) overseen by the Office of the Dean of Students. All campus-governing bodies, including SG, fill their open positions through an open filing, campaigning and voting period. This ensures that all UT Austin students can vote or run for office to help shape campus leadership. For detailed rules, schedules, eligibility criteria and campaign guidelines, see the UT Student Elections site.
How can I participate in Student Government elections?
Getting involved in Student Government elections is simple:
- Vote: Every UT Austin student has the right to vote during the official election period.
- Run for Office: File as a candidate during the open filing window and follow the steps outlined by the Office of the Dean of Students.
- Support a Campaign: Join or volunteer with a candidate’s team to gain experience in campus leadership and advocacy.
When are elections held?
Elections generally take place during the spring (Campus-wide), with a separate First-year Election in the fall for first-year representatives.
