Structure
Understanding the Structure
Student Government (SG) at The University of Texas at Austin is the officially recognized student governance organization representing all enrolled students, structured into three separate branches: executive, legislative, and judicial. Its purpose is to express student opinion, participate in University policy development and steward student fees responsibly while providing leadership opportunities for students. The Student Governement Constitution formally establishes these three branches and defines their roles, powers and duties.
Executive Branch
The Exec leads SG, implements legislation, manages initiatives and represents the student body to the university and external entities.
Legislative Branch
The Assembly creates official SG policy and legislation, represents constituencies, and oversees internal governance.
Judicial Branch
The SG Supreme Court is in charge of interpreting governing documents, resolving disputes, and ensuring constitutional compliance.
